Following flood damage to the already ageing roads, Hythe End Residents Association selected S&C Slatter’s dedicated Surfacing & Civils division to repair and resurface the roadway, reducing the risk of damage to vehicles and enhancing the area’s aesthetics.
Hythe End Road and The Island is a private residential area situated along the River Thames. Tucked away, the beautiful spot is served by a small, single track private road for resident access. As a private estate, management and maintenance of the road, communal areas and street furniture falls to the residents, who formed a limited company and member-voted committee to manage these responsibilities.
Following the installation of a new bridge to The Island in 2019, the committee identified the ageing access roadway as the next priority for the managed funds, particularly due to road damage caused by flooding.
“The road had not been resurfaced for some years and the part up to our Island access road was particularly bad after floods, so we decided to get this section repaired and resurfaced.”
– Reginald Marsh, Hythe End Residents Association
Forming the entranceway to Hythe End and The Island, the committee knew that resurfacing the road would improve the aesthetics of their private estate, while reducing the risk of damage to vehicles.
They sought a contractor to deliver on these needs while accommodating resident access and ensuring minimal disruption to the peaceful area while on site.
S&C Slatter’s dedicated Surfacing & Civils division serves various sectors and has delivered small to large scale projects for several private homes and estates.
Seeking an experienced and dedicated contractor, the residents’ association sourced a selection of quotations to deliver their new roadway. With an outline already in place, Simon Bradbury, our Head of Surfacing and Civils, advised and developed the project specification. This ensured that the works best served the residents’ requirements and offered the best value for money.
“We had another quote of a similar price but Simon’s advice and attention to detail meant that we gave the work to S&C Slatter.”
– Reginald Marsh, Hythe End Residents Association
Our dedicated in-house teams delivered the works using wholly owned and operated specialist machinery, enabling strict controls of timescales and reduced risk for the client.
The roadway section was repaired with a plane off and resurface, incorporating four speed ramps and roadway markings to promote considerate speeds.
The new roadway provides a smart and safe access route to Hythe End and the Island. The road complements the well-kept residential area while reducing risk of vehicle damage caused by the formerly uneven and damaged surface.
Works were delivered on time and to specification, with our team working hard to ensure that there would be minimal disruption, helping residents where single-track sections were blocked during construction.
“Living in a no through road, access and egress were important. Times were defined and the team showed flexibility – for example assisting in getting equipment for nurses to one of our residents. Many of the team were on first name terms with the residents by the end of the week.”
– Reginald Marsh, Hythe End Residents Association
We were thrilled to assist Hythe End Residents Association with their new road repair and resurface. Helping them to achieve, through the consultation process, the best specification to suit their needs and budget, our dedicated team have produced a new roadway that will serve residents for many years to come!
The residents love the new road and have expressed how courteous the S&C Slatter team were throughout the whole process. We set the specification with Simon and it was met and in areas exceeded.”
