Yes, it’s true – four 3G football turf stadium pitches installed by S&C Slatter have been selected to host matches in the tournament which takes place from 31 May until 9 June. That’s the 3rd CONIFA Paddy Power World Football Cup being played in the London region by sixteen members of the federation.

Sutton United, Slough Town FC, Haringey Borough FC and Bedfont Sports FC are among the ten venues that will see a total of forty matches. All four have FIFA-certified 3G football turf playing surfaces produced by our manufacturing partner FieldTurf with S&C Slatter responsible in each case for the whole specialist design and build process.

The Gander Green Lane pitch at Sutton has received high profile national attention and praise during the club’s fabulous FA Cup and National League exploits. However, all these stadiums have been recognised for their consistently high standards of play performance. At the same time, their accessibility and value as a wider community resource is now well proven and a fundamental asset in building stronger local relationships.

CONIFA is the football federation for teams outside of FIFA. It’s volunteer-run and committed to the highest ethical standards. As an international NGO it supports the football associations of states, de facto territories, regions, ethnic minority groups and sports isolated territories.

It is expected that some eighty thousand spectators will attend the tournament over the nine days.

A Bursars Golf Day took place last week at the East Sussex National Gold Club. Organised and presented by S&C Slatter, some twenty-five Bursars from the independent schools sector played the challenging West Course, in an event which was scheduled to coincide with the ISBA Annual Conference in Brighton of which S&C Slatter was a sponsor.

As a prelude to the golf, Roedean School very kindly invited everyone to take breakfast at the school, including the opportunity to see their outstanding new range of external sports facilities – constructed by S&C Slatter.

The picturesque setting of ESNC was enhanced by warm, sunny weather and supported by the excellent facilities provided by one of the South’s premier leisure venues. This was all very much appreciated by the guests.

‘It was such an enjoyable occasion and very well organised, meaning the tone of the day was spot on and I hope this will be an annual event.’ Richard Poffley, Roedean School.

‘I was great fun. I know the amount of effort that goes into arranging such an event and it really is much appreciated.’ Paddy Jackman, Ardingly College.

After play, dinner was taken in the Club’s Hunningtons Restaurant and everyone took the opportunity to relax and take in the fabulous views of the Sussex countryside. This was also the occasion to present the competition prizes.

Adrian Flemming, a specialist in Health & Safety and Quality Compliance has joined the S&C Slatter team as Health & Safety Manager as the company continues to build and extend its in-house expertise and resources.

Health and safety is a concern across all UK industries, but it’s of particular importance within the construction industry.

Whatever the aspect of construction – demolition, building, refurbishment, roadworks – construction sites can present risks beyond most other industry workplaces. Whilst no workplace has zero risk, there is an obvious and major difference between the risks presented at a construction worker’s place of work, in comparison with, for instance, a finance or retail worker’s workplace.

This is why S&C Slatter takes its Health & Safety responsibilities to its staff, clients and the general public very seriously and has certificated accreditations with EXOR Gold, Safecontractor and CHAS. This commitment and the company’s policy of pursuing a path of continual improvement has directly led to this key appointment.

Adrian is a highly qualified Health & Safety professional with specific senior management experience within the construction sector and armed forces. He is a Chartered Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (CMIOSH), Specialist Member of the International Institute of Risk and Safety Management (SIIRSM) and Associate Member of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (AIEMA).

In addition to spending a good deal of time on S&C Slatter’s active construction sites throughout the country monitoring and ensuring H&S compliance, Adrian will be working with the in-house Pre-Construction team in preparing client submissions and pre-works risk assessments, method statements and constructions phase plans.

On wider quality-related strategy, implementation of our quality and environmental management systems ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 also comes under Adrian’s remit as QEMS Manager This again is an area within which he has a good deal of practical experience being a qualified Lead Auditor for both standards and ISO 18001.

S&C Slatter is a certified member of various PQQ and Compliance organisations including Constructionline Gold and Builder’s Profile and is the Independent Schools Association (ISA) Gold Preferred Supplier – Sports Construction including Artificial Sports Pitches.

If you’re planning to build, refurbish or upgrade a sports or leisure facility, S&C Slatter as the Country’s leading single solution provider of inclusive construction services has to be the go-to choice.

However, did you know that S&C Slatter actually comprises of five specialist product service hubs, each created to deliver a specific set of in-house skills and resources?

With each hub being an acknowledged expert in its particular project specialism, you just know you’re getting the very best advice, skills and technology available.

As sports construction specialists, we are delighted to have made a significant contribution to the exciting new Elmbridge Xcel Community Sports Hub. Ours has been an extensive and challenging brief embracing a number of key elements within the overall development.

Led by Pre-Construction Manager Ben O’Connor and Contracts Manager Peter Fowler, the S&C Slatter project team has delivered an exceptional end product which will be seen as one of Surrey’s most important community assets.

The new Sports Hub provides a shared home ground for Walton Casuals Football Club, Walton & Hersham Football Club and Walton Athletics Club, all of whom will playing their sport on an artificial surfacing system constructed by S&C Slatter. Local clubs, sports teams and schools will also no doubt be taking full advantage new pitches and track.

Simon Morris, Building Surveyor with Elmbridge Borough Council comments, ‘S&C Slatter co-ordinated and worked well with both the Council’s asset management team and the Xcel Sports Hub’s principal contractor. They worked hard to fully address our requirements and were proactive throughout the project. The Council and the four resident clubs are all very proud of the facilities created at the Xcel Sports Hub and we look forward to enjoying them for many years to come.”

The entire ground and facilities are built in accordance with Football Association National Ground Grading Category C with the 3G football turf stadium and training pitches both designed to play to FIFA Quality Performance Standard. These feature 60mm 360XL surfaces from FieldTurf the World’s leading producer of artificial turf and our manufacturing partner. Both are installed by us onto engineered macadam sub-base structures designed and built by our own in-house construction team.

We have also constructed a 6160m2 natural grass training pitch and a 9000m2 UK Athletics level 2 competition grade (County and Regional) athletics facility centred on an 8 lane Polymeric running track and a full range of field athletics.

The 3G pitches and athletics track have been furnished with floodlighting to the relevant and appropriate luminance levels and operating requirements, and S&C Slatter has also installed a wide range of different fencing systems. Subject to the necessary performance parameters, these have included 868 weld mesh rebound rigid panel, spectator, acoustic and post and rail specifications.

Utilising our estate-wide in-house expertise and construction plant, we have also had responsibility for delivering the 242-space car park, access road, footpaths, hardstandings and landscaped natural grass amenity areas.

We are a Category A Supply Chain Partner of principal contractor Willmott Dixon and have thoroughly enjoyed working with the Willmott Dixon team on this project. We believe all of us can be proud of not only the end result, which quite frankly speaks for itself, but the highly engaged and seamless relationship that has driven it.

New S&C Slatter Mini-Paver
Working at a Major New Sports Hub

S&C Slatter has increased its in-house fleet of specialist construction machinery with the addition of a Vogele Super 800-3i mini-paver.

Already successfully employed on a number of sports construction sites, the mini-paver is ideal for work on small multi-use games areas (MUGAs), spectator zones and pathways. It fits ideally into the company’s operational programme where larger units can’t be used and hand-laying just doesn’t produce the right results.

The Super 800-3i mini-paver will deliver a higher standard of finish and consistency, improved working efficiency and productivity, reduced materials handling and a better working environment for the site operations team.

Although it has an impressive laydown rate of up to 300 tonnes/per hour, with a wide range of pave widths from half a metre to three and half metres, it’s very compact with a clearance width of only 1.4 metres, making it a great option for confined working sites and those with restricted access points.

The 800-3i joins its ‘big brother’ the 1600-3i within the S&C Slatter fleet as testimony to the company’s continuing investment in developing in-house resources. The focus as always is on quality enhancement through the acquisition of latest technology and innovation.

With a maximum pave width of seven metres and a laydown rate of 600 tonnes per hour, the Vogele Super 1600-3i is a well-established and valued part of the Slatter construction delivery process. It’s constantly engaged in both the sport pitch and estate-wide infrastructure builds which mirror the company’s increasing project reach.

Subject of course to availability, the S&C Slatter 800-3i mini-paver also can be hired, together with its team of highly experienced operators, for external projects. For full details call S&C Slatter on 01635 34521 or email info@sandcslatter.com
